Hello! Welcome to my world. Thank you for visiting. Nothing motivates me more than photography. My wish is to share it with you.
I did what many do when planning their adult life. I ignored my passion, for art that is. I pursued a career as a registered nurse. The practical career. The one that would help me bring in a stable income. It was an honorable profession. I graduated with a bachelor of science in nursing and specialized in pediatric oncology and maternal child health. As you can image 30 years of nursing took an emotional toll on me. I started pursuing photography as a hobby and then as a business while still working full time as a nurse. It allowed me to pursue what I craved, making art. Balancing me out. Then in 2015 I lost my husband and soulmate of 28 years to brain cancer. I could not take the emotional pain any longer. I left nursing. I needed food for my heart and healing. I needed to do what I was meant to do. Now I focus solely on photography. I am self taught.
Photography is my key to happiness, my way of loosing myself in this crazy world. I love animals, adventure travel and working independently. I love doing what I uniquely good at. When people tell me my work is excellent or beautiful and better yet it moves them emotionally, I know I have done my job.
I fell into equine photography unconsciously. It started with my dogs. I loved photographing them and to photography them well and candidly in their natural environment I had to learn to shoot fast. The same goes for horses. When I started photographing horses and doing it well the WOW factor exploded in my photography. Moreover when I started photographing the wild horses which means going out into the wild in desolate places, I knew I found my true calling. I enjoy being out in the wilds completely alone or with one of my dogs tied to my belt loop.
I've always loved producing art in many different forms throughout my life but digital photography brings instant satisfaction. I could clearly define my style if I went with solely black and white or just color but I find it difficult to confine myself that way. Color brings vibrancy unifying the pieces of a composition creating picturesque images. Conversely the absence of color can draw attention to detail and pure light. I present my images and then let my audience do the judging.
Besides loving the art of photography itself I love horses. I believe horses are the most beautiful animal on the planet and are God's gift to mankind. They are are helpers, healers and teachers. At the start of civilization they helped man physically. Today they are here to help us emotionally. In my images I want people to see the horses intelligence, beauty, power and grace.
And last but not least I live at Sundog Ranch in Northern California on a incredible piece of land in a sacred home were I create my art. I have recently become a Reiki master (energy healer) which helps guide my work from the heart. I am also a hobby breeder of English Golden Retrievers. I usually have at least four adult Goldens living at home at any given time not to mention a litter of puppies most years. I also have my two horses who I love to trail ride. And last but not least I have Rosie a burro who I adopted from the wild. I gentled her myself back in 2013. Rosie is crucial at Sundog Ranch as she guards and protects my herd of goats who clear my land of brush preventing extreme fire threat.
